Refugees Need Your Help

Displaced people affected by conflict and natural disasters desperately need temporary housing.

If you reside near a conflict or disaster area and have the capacity, please consider hosting displaced people in your home using the Take Refuge application.

Offer refuge. Offer humanity.

What is Take Refuge?

Take Refuge is an online application designed to connect hosts who have spare capacity in their homes with refugees who need a temporary place to stay. It has been directly inspired by TakeShelter, which was created and maintained by InternetActivism.

This application is maintained by Refuge Technology, a group of developers making open-source humanitarian software.

Once vetted, hosts can choose to host refugees and displaced people in their homes. Hosts can choose to host for a period of time, or indefinitely. The host will then be matched to displaced persons by reputable aid organizations such as the UN, the IRC, and the Red Cross.

Our Response to Critical Mass Displacement Events

Israel & Palestine

In the aftermath of the October 7th attacks, an all out conflict has broken out in the already tense region comprising of Palestine and Israel. Innocent civilians in Israel, the Gaza Strip, and the West Bank - many of them children, have lost their homes and way of life as a result.

Palestinians in Gaza, in particular, have experienced mass-displacement. According to the United Nations, 1.7 million Palestinians have been internally displaced from their homes in the Gaza strip, with few able to find safety or actively searching for much needed shelter in neighboring Middle Eastern nations.

The Take Refuge & Refuge Technology team is actively attempting to work with aid organizations on the ground in this region to provide much needed relief and support in the form of shelter hosting and software solutions.

To provide much needed help in this region, please consider:

  • Hosting Displaced People: Consider hosting displaced people if you are able to and reside in Israel, Egypt, Jordan, the West Bank, or in the general MENA (Middle East North Africa) area. [The Gaza strip is currently deemed too unsafe to host shelter, therefore - hosts in neighboring nations are urgently needed.]
  • Donating to Aid Orgs: Consider donating to aid organizations actively operating on the ground within this region.

Sudan
